Compassionate Conservation Middle East
Compassionate Conservation Middle East is a research group collaboration between Tel Aviv and Haifa-Oranim Universities in Israel and the Centre for Compassionate Conservation at the University of Technology Sydney, Australia. Our research group merges the values of nature conservation and animal protection in the context of the new and exciting field of 'compassionate conservation'. We achieve this through field research, teaching and public outreach.
Our guiding principles: 1) First, do no harm as a commitment to prioritizing non-invasive approaches in conservation research and practice, and an acknowledgement that invasive interventions may harm individuals, populations, and ecosystems 2) Recognizing the importance of individual animals in conservation research and practice, not merely as units of species and populations, and should be treated with compassion both in the wild and in captivity 3) Valuing all wildlife as worthy of conservation effort, whether native or introduced, whether common or rare, and regardless of perceived usefulness to humans 4) Peaceful co-existence with wildlife is the ultimate aim guiding compassionate conservation practices |
